I really liked this book! but once again I think I say that about all of them *laughs awkwardly*
It was a really good book! I am hoping to get the rest of the series really soon!
I've read some reviews on goodreads and noticed A Lot of people were saying "it's too cliche" . . . honestly, I don't think so. There are a few things that I could see being Cliche but it was still an amazing book! with amazing characters and an amazing setting with an amazing plot!
let's start off with the characters, Katie was a normal teenage girl...besides the 'family tragedy' and moving halfway across the world to live with her aunt in Shizuoka, japan. Normal, right? but other than that, Katie was a awesome character (with attitude) but who doesn't like a little attitude? or sarcasm?
Tomohiro, really mysterious...and most of the time a jerk. But once Katie broke through the wall she found the nice side of him. But then he was still kind of a jerk, but for good reasons!
Katie's friends were funny, Yuki was my favorite, and then lastly. There was Jun. I thought nothing of him the entire book, okay I thought a few things, But I wont tell you which on is correct or wrong or even if they are both wrong or both correct. I thought "Oh, maybe he's part of the Yakuza" or "he knows" or "He saw it".
Yakuza- Japanese gangsters.
The setting- I loved the setting idea! JAPAN! this book has made me fallen in love with the idea of going to Japan, not because I think I'll become a Kami or anything *Whistles*. no but seriously! I want to go to Japan now! the way Amanda Sun described it, it seemed so beautiful...besides the Yakuza, that's not. But the Sakura's were!

Plot- Okay, so I still don't understand what Katie has to do with the Kami . . . but yeah. Still figuring that out. I loved the idea of the plot! With the Kami and adding in the Yakuza, and then adding in the other stuff I won't spoil ;)
This was an amazing story! The plot was so well thought out, and the writing of this novel was also really well. At first I didn't know there was a glossary in the back, so I was really confused with all the Japanese meanings...had to re-read the first chapter once I figured out there was a glossary.
(This is--I think--the longest review I've done so far :D ) I hope you enjoyed, Luvs. I really enjoyed this novel and some of you may be wondering! "Why did she give it 9/10 if she liked it" or maybe you aren't thinking that.
But I gave it 9 of 10 only because I was extremely confused in the beginning and had to re-read. but it's okay! I would be giving it a 10/10 if I didn't get confused. it is more my fault that i didn't realize there was a glossary or anything, but that's why it got a 9 instead of a 10.

I am a YA author and proud Nerdfighter. I was born in Deep River, Canada, a very small town without traffic lights or buses, and where stranger safety is comprised of what to do if you see a bear--or skunk. I started reading fantasy novels at 4 and writing as soon as I could hold a pencil. Hopefully my work's improved since then.
In university I took English, Linguistics, and Asian History, before setting into Archaeology, because I loved learning about the cultured and stories of ancient people. Of course, I didn't actually become an archaeologist--I have an intense fear of spiders. I prefer unearthing fascinating stories in the safety of my living room.
The Paper Gods is inspired by my time living in Osaka and travelling throughout Japan. That and watching far too many J-Dramas. I currently live in Toronto with my husband and daughter. When I'm not writing, I'm devouring YA books, knitting nerdy things like companion cubes and Triforce mitts, and making elaborate cosplays for anime cons.
